Three Billboards won FOUR awards at the Golden Globes 2018! There are limited showings which you could find if you looked hard enough, but it’s officially released January 12th in the UK. It’s got laughs, feels and great characters with great actors playing them.
If you have the time to spare, I’d absolutely recommend giving this one a watch.

McDonagh seems to spend the time in between projects perfecting his characters, plot lines and how everything intertwines. I had heard good things and good things I did receive. I enjoyed Seven Psychopaths and Three Billboards, so I figured I might as well watch McDonagh’s first film – In Bruges.
Prior to watching this, I had only seen one of Martin McDonagh’s previous films (Seven Psychopaths) at which point I didn’t really know who McDonagh was, nor did I realise Three Billboards was by him either (granted this is only his third full-feature length film and he’s not as well known as some other directors with plenty of films under their belts). The supporting cast is one in which you might recognise a few familiar faces, especially from McDonagh’s previous work, the likes of Woody Harrelson, Sam Rockwell, Peter Dinklage, Zeljko Ivanek and Lucas Hedges just to name a few. The first thing I need to do is applaud the casting director ( a quick search on IMDb informs me it’s a ‘ Sarah Finn‘) and secondly, I’ll applaud the cast themselves.įrances McDormand does an outstanding job in the lead role, from the sarcastic remark to perfect moments of solitude. Three Billboards tells a story of a grieving mother seeking justice for her daughter after the local police department is unable to catch the criminal and oh boy is this film a wild ride! It was hilarious, heartbreaking and incredibly well acted.Īfter spending just under two hours with these characters, I felt like I’d known them for years – No dialogue is thrown away, but instead might add another layer to a characters’ background, history or views on a controversial topic… and then it’s never addressed again. I saw this film with Odeon’s Screen Unseen towards the end of last year and it has stuck with me ever since. Welcome to the first ‘Film Thought Thursday’ of 2018! …has to be one of the weirdest titles I’ve heard for a film for a while, but don’t let that put you off.
